Tips for Creating Engaging Instagram Reels

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Instagram Reels are the best way to reach viral growth on Instagram. If you know how to create engaging Reels, you have a better chance of raising brand awareness and growing your audience. That’s why we’re giving tips for creating Reels that get maximum engagement.

1. Use Trends as Inspiration

When it comes to creating Reels, trends are everything, so creating original content that follows what’s trending is the best way to get engagement. So, what do we mean by that? Music, voiceovers, actions and dances, templates and timing are some trends people use when creating Reels. If you notice a particular song on a lot of trending Reels, put it over your next Reel! It’s more likely to be seen and more likely to have better engagement. The same goes for any of the other trends you see. Take what’s popular, and adapt it to your original content.

2. Find Your Niche, and Then Be Consistent With It

If you are a brand trying to get engagement through Instagram, you probably already have a niche. Skincare companies cater to the beauty community; real estate accounts focus on housing topics; clothing brands are part of the fashion community, and so on. Figure out what community your brand is trying to be a part of and run with it. Your followers engage with your brand because they are interested in that topic, so focus your Reels on a niche and be consistent with the type of content and posting.

3. Use Hashtags

Hashtags have been an excellent tool for engagement for a long time, and it’s not going away. Use relevant hashtags that describe your brand and Reel. It not only helps Instagram categorize your content for the right audiences but can help you sort your content as well, using specific hashtags for certain types of content.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind regarding hashtags. First, ensure the hashtags you use are relevant to your account and that you also change them up occasionally to prevent shadow-banning. Next, if you notice a trending hashtag that relates to your Reel, use it! Your Reel will have a better chance of being seen.

4. Drive Traffic By Encouraging Users to Visit Your Links

If you have a website in your bio or use a service like Link in Bio, use your Reels as an opportunity to point users in that direction. Do this by including a clear call to action in your caption, on-screen text, or audio. Since Reel engagement has a higher engagement rate than other types of content, they are more likely to drive traffic to your website and other linked content.

5. Use On-Screen Text

Since it is common for people to watch Reels without sound and captions are occasionally skipped over, it’s essential to have descriptive text, captions, or subtitles on your actual Reel. This ensures users can still understand your Reel and engage with it. You can do this within the Instagram app or by downloading a video editing app with unique fonts and more customization.

6. Figure Out The Best Times to Post Reels on Instagram

Be strategic with the days and times you post your Reels. The Influencer Marketing Hub has analyzed more than 100,000 short-form video content posts to find the best engagement rates for different times. Their findings indicate that the following are the best times to post Instagram Reels for maximum engagement: Monday at 6a, 10a, 10p, Tuesday at 2a, 4a, 9a, Wednesday at 7a, 8a, 11p, Thursday at 9a, 12a, 7p, Friday at 5a, 1p, 3p, Saturday at 11a, 7p, 8p and Sunday at 7a, 8a and 4p.
